      Our commitment to sustainability is built already in our mission: We enable IVD customers to deliver results to billions of patients. Our mission reflects our commitment to delivering consistently high-quality raw materials to the IVD industry, ensuring that patients receive accurate diagnostic test results. Additionally, we support the research community with materials that advance their vital work to improve public health. Our mission thus has direct positive impact on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing. 

      One of our core values, We care for the people and the world around us, reflects our commitment to enhance the wellbeing of our employees and responsible use of natural resources. This commitment reaches beyond our operations to the entire supply chain through a thorough approval process, ensuring that our suppliers align with our Code of Conduct principles and act responsibly.

      The core themes of our sustainability include uncompromising product quality and safety, sustainable and responsible operations in the manufacturing of raw materials for the diagnostic industry, a commitment to continuous innovation for better diagnostics, and fostering a supportive environment for the development of our talent - as our responsibility towards our employees and customers. We aim to improve in our selected themes through concrete actions, such as: 

      Uncompromising product quality and safety

      • We ensure high product quality through strict quality management systems and comprehensive testing, supported by ongoing equipment management and employee training to maintain consistent lot-to-lot performance. By careful selection of raw materials and production technologies we ensure the chemical safety and biosafety of our products. 

      • Customer satisfaction is a top priority for us. With regular customer surveys we actively gather feedback, where we typically see the majority of the feedback being positive, highlighting satisfaction with our products and services. We also utilize the valuable insights from the surveys to make improvements to our product portfolio and better meet customer needs.   
      • These actions contribute to increased patient safety by ensuring accurate diagnostic test results and support sustainability by reducing risks in customer manufacturing processes.

      Sustainable and responsible operations
      • We are committed to building sustainability into our supply chain by ensuring our suppliers meet stringent standards for quality, reliability, and environmental and social responsibility. Our manufacturing processes prioritize consistency and ongoing improvements in environmental sustainability. We focus on reducing our carbon footprint, sorting and recycling waste, and optimizing resource usage. Additionally, we are committed to increasing the use of sustainable materials without compromising product quality. Through these efforts, we provide responsible, high-quality solutions that meet our customers' values and expectations. 
      • We are actively looking for more sustainable packaging materials to ship our products to our customers across the globe. For more information about our packaging material types, please contact medix@medixbiochemica.com. 
      Innovation
      • Medix Biochemica has been from its foundation a pioneer in sustainability as the company was one of the first to commercialize highly ethical and scalable in vitro, non-animal based, manufacturing of monoclonal antibodies at industrial scale in the 1990’s.  
      • Since then, we are dedicated to driving innovation by investing substantial part of annual sales into product development, focusing on adopting ever more sustainable technologies. This enables us to offer recombinant alternatives for antibodies and antigens, providing more responsible options for our customers. Our investment in these technologies not only broadens our product portfolio but also enhances supply chain efficiency and improves patient care.  
      • 20 percent of our personnel work in R&D. By working closely with scientific communities, we continuously advance diagnostic solutions, ensuring that our immunodiagnostics, quality control materials, and molecular diagnostics meet the highest standards of sustainability and quality. 

      Talent

      • We are committed to fostering a positive work environment that supports employee satisfaction and wellbeing. Regular surveys and feedback loops guide the continuous development of our workplace culture.  
      • Competence development is key to our success, with all employees receiving thorough onboarding, job-specific training, and development.  
      • As work safety is a top priority for us, we ensure all sites follow occupational health and safety protocols, with continuous improvement actions taken as needed.   
      • We also promote equality and diversity by valuing and enhancing the unique perspectives of our employees, while upholding human rights as outlined by the UN Universal Declaration, ensuring equal opportunities for all.

      The overall framework for our sustainability goals stem from the United Nations 17 Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs): THE 17 GOALS | Sustainable Development (un.org) which call for action and support companies’ efforts to achieve more sustainable future for everyone. Among these SDG’s, Medix Biochemica can contribute the most to the following ones:

      Sustainability assessments

      EcoVadis

      We are pleased to continue our sustainability journey at Medix Biochemica. Medix Biochemica joined EcoVadis sustainability rating system in 2023 and scored Bronze Medal with the first response, outscoring 72% of all companies rated by the system. This year we improved our sustainability performance and earned Silver Medal, outscoring 89% of all companies rated by EcoVadis. 

      The rating validates and demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and most importantly, it shows us where we can improve. Over the past few years, we have further increased our focus on corporate social responsibility and efforts on environmental responsibility. 

       

       

      Responsible Care

      Medix Biochemica has been a member of the Responsible Care® program for Chemical Industry in Finland since 2017 and reported sustainability metrics since 2016. To prepare for CSRD, the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, Medix Biochemica has counted scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions, and published the first data from 2023 on the website, well in advance of the required timelines.
